Essar Power Ltd. (EPOL)
which operates a 515 MW power plant, has been conferred
the prestigious "Safety Award" by the Gujarat
Safety Council and Factory Inspectorate, Gujarat State.
The award comprises Winner Rotating Shield & a Citation
in the "Category C" (manpower 100 to 500) and "Group
V" ( Engineering, Foundries, Cement, Paper & Pulp,
Power generation & transmission, Plastic & Rubber
processing industries). Essar Power is part of the Rs.17000
cr. Essar Group having interests in steel, shipping, oil & gas,
telecom and constructions.
EPOL has an enviable track record as far as Safety is concerned. EPOL has been
consistently getting safety awards from various institutions. It had been awarded
the prestigious "National Safety Award" for a consecutive third time
in the year 2000 by "British Safety Council, U.K.". This award has
been conferred on EPOL for maintaining excellent record in safety and successfully
maintaining the incident rate far lower than that of national standards of U.K.
and also striving for the continuous improvement in Health and Safety standards.
Earlier it had received this award in the year 1998 and 1999.

The combined cycle power
plant of Essar Power, which is based on pollution-free
green technology, provides 300 MW to GEB and 215 MW to
Essar Steel . The plant is operated and maintained by dynamic,
trained, dedicated creative and empowered team of young
engineers. The average combined cycle plant availability
has been more than 95%. The company attributes the success
to Safety, Health & Environment policies, quality of
operation and maintenance, HR policies and team work. Essar
had recently sponsored a special workshop on Behavior Based
Safety for heads of Safety / HR and line managers of Surat/
Hazira based Industries.
