Essar awarded the Rs.137 crore Chambal Dholpur Bharatpur Water Transmission Project

Ltd. has been awarded the prestigious Chambal-Dholpur-Bharatpur
water supply project valued at Rs 137 crore by the Rajasthan
Government's Public Health Engineering Department. The
project will supply treated water to the Bharatpur area
with the Chambal river water as its source.
The construction
contract is worth Rs 128.35 crore while the Operations
and Maintenance (O&M) contract is
for Rs 8.65 crores. The time-frame for the project is
30 months for construction and the O&M contract is
for 5 years.
The project will cover 69 villages in Dholpur
district and 930 villages in Bharatpur district.
The salient
features of the project include - 86 kms of pipelines consisting
of 34 km of mild steel pipeline that will consume 8,800
metric tonnes of steel and 52 km of pre-stressed cement
concrete pipeline, an intake well at Chambal River, two
reservoirs of capacity 25.6 million liters (ML) and 220
ML capacities at Dholpur and Bharatpur sites respectively.
Further, three water sumps and pumping stations, one each
at intake well location, Sagarpada Site (Dholpur) and Mallaha
site (Bharatpur), a 112 million liters per day (MLD) water
treatment plant at Mallaha Site (Bharatpur) and three 33
KV switchyards will be erected.
Essar has also recently
bagged a Rs 43 crore contract to develop a combined water
supply scheme in the districts of Madurai and Theni in
Tamil Nadu.
Essar has played a major role in building bulk water pipeline
projects in Gujarat in recent years of approximately Rs
500 crore covering 761 kms and utilising 118,100 metric
tonnes of mild steel. The company has provided the means
to carry clean drinking water to 2.75 crore people in 10,724
villages and 141 towns spread across 8 districts.
It is noteworthy
that the Gujarat Water Supply & Sewerage Board (GWSSB)
felicitated Essar for its outstanding performance in infrastructure
projects in Gujarat in 2001-2002.
In the construction area,
Essar is one of India's leading engineering, procurement
and construction players with project execution of Rs 14,000
crore in key infrastructure areas. The major thrust areas
are pipelines, civil and irrigation works, marine and industrial
plants and roads and highways. The current order book is
Rs 1,000 crore. Essar is also building 200 kms of Prime
Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's prized golden quadrilateral
road highway project in cooperation with its joint venture
partner United Engineers, Malaysia. This is part of the
Asian Development Bank aided, western transport corridor,
NH-4 project in Karnataka.
