The Government of India has announced a power generation target of 175,000 MW from renewable sources by 2022. Of this, 120,000 MW is proposed to be generated via solar power alone. To achieve this colossal target, India will need about 9 million tonnes of steel in the next three years.
Essar Steel’s R&D and Marketing teams have developed a special grade of steel and has branded it as Solgal, for the solar power generation sector. The teams have been working closely with Essar Steel client Tata International to manufacture this grade, which is characterised by a high coating of zinc.
Solgal meets all the international standards and is approved by a third-party lab, which is NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accredited, and appointed by Suzlon Energy and Tata International. Essar Steel has already dispatched the order for Tata International’s 150 MW solar power project in Nagpur, which is being executed by Suzlon.
